Safety Advice
Practical guidance on choosing and looking after workwear.
Choosing hi-viz
- Day work near traffic: a vest over normal workwear is usually enough
- Night or low light: choose garments with reflective tape on arms and legs, not just the torso
- Wet conditions: hi-viz rainwear rather than a vest over a raincoat, which hides the tape
Footwear
- Safety toe caps for sites with falling or rolling hazards
- Gumboots where there is standing water, chemicals or constant washdown
- Fit matters more than rating: badly fitting boots get taken off
Looking after workwear
- Wash hi-viz separately and avoid fabric softener, which dulls reflective tape
- Replace garments when the tape cracks or the fabric goes grey, even if they are not torn
- Keep a small stock of common sizes so damaged kit gets swapped, not patched
Sizing a team
Order a size set before a big run. Sizing varies between brands, and one fitting session saves a round of returns on a 100-piece order.
